Tell Secretary Zinke,

I am appalled that our treasured National monuments are up for “review” at all. I am adamantly opposed to any effort to eliminate or diminish protections for national monuments. An attempt to attack one monument by rolling back protections would be an attack on them all. Our national monuments should remain protected for future generations to enjoy — they are a gift that belongs to all.

Gold Butte and Basin and Range National Monuments are under threat! This is unacceptable. Gold Butte National Monument adds so much to the local community, and offers a great deal to all Americans. It is open to hiking and camping, while protecting the habitat of Bighorn Sheep, mountain lions and the Mojave Desert tortoise. It also contains ancient Native American artifacts and historical sites from early pioneer ranchers and Spanish explorers . Gold Butte being a national monument is protecting a vital piece of the American story.

Basin and Range National Monument is not only beautiful, its creation stopped a potential rail route for transportation of nuclear waste through Utah to Yucca Mountain. By stopping this possible rail project, Basin and Range’s national monument designation is literally keeping the people of the US safe!

By telling the story of our historical, cultural, and natural heritage, our national monuments and public lands and waters help define who we are as a nation. Protect all the national monuments under review, and keep them all intact.

President Trump issued an executive order directing the Department of Interior to review some of our nation's most pristine national monuments, in order to potentially eliminate or shrink protections for them. The national monuments under attack include Gold Butte and Basin and Range National Monuments in Nevada.

This is a direct attack on public lands and our shared Nevada history and heritage. With the clock ticking on the comment period, we as Nevadans must make our voices heard now. Tell President Trump's Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke that you value these monuments and want them to remain protected!
